What belongs on an ISO 9001-compliant NCR template?

When an auditor or customer reviews nonconforming material control under ISO 9001:2015 (Clause 8.7) or AS9100D, static spreadsheets and Word documents frequently fail because they lack structured disposition custody and immediate containment records.

1. Identification & Traceability

Unique sequential report number, date discovered, part number, work order/job traveler number, customer name, and quantity of nonconforming pieces.

2. Objective Evidence & Specification

Blueprint drawing tolerance vs. actual measurement. Auditors require measurable data (e.g. 0.250" ± 0.002" requirement vs. 0.234" measured), not subjective notes.

3. Immediate Containment Action

Physical quarantine location (e.g. Red Bin, Station 4), machine hold, and immediate segregation to guarantee nonconforming stock does not blend with acceptable parts.

4. Formal Disposition Decision

Clear categorization: Rework, Scrap, Use As-Is (Concession), Return to Vendor (RTV), or Material Review Board (MRB) decision with authorized engineering sign-off.
